Gel Medium Resist with Gelli Plate

Well I finally got a chance to try the gel medium resist technique! Ever since I saw the tutorial on the Gelli Arts site I've been dying to try it out (http://gelliarts.blogspot.ca/).  It was a long weekend here in Canada, and I even took a couple of extra days off so that I would have more time to get everything done and still have time to play.  And this is what I did....

First...yes, I am one of those people that don't clean their Gelli Plate too often.  However, most of the blue and green on here is actually newly dried paint from the previous prints.  I decided to leave it there to see what would happen.  I applied a thin layer of gel medium on the plate with my brayer.

Then I added a few stencils...

And took the first pull.  Love the blues and greens that came up with this print.  I set it aside to dry...

Once dry, I added some Distress Paint...

Then wiped it off to reveal the resist.  A little bit "muddier than I had envisioned...but I still really like the blues and greens peaking through.

Next I added a fuschia paint to the Gelli Plate and added some small doilies to mask parts of the print.

I then started working on some other prints, adding to this one as I went along and the mood struck...dark blue aboriginal stencil, teal blazonry stencil, red harlequin stencil and bubble doily stencil, green rain drops. I also used the die cut bird on a print and when I pulled it off the plate I pressed it onto this print to stamp the image.

Finally, I doodled around the bird and some of the teal blazonry images.

This was another one of the gel medium experiments.  This time I sprayed with Dylusions ink sprays.

I added some orange Bubble Doily over the resist print.

And while trying to decide what to do next, I spotted this "eye" and thought I could do something with that...looks a bit "Egyptian" to me...

As I contined to look at the print I spotted a lion..or tiger (almost cartoonish)... Can you see it in the hexagon?  How cool is that!

I'm going to have to think about where I want to go next with this print.

It's A Wrap!

For the past 3 years I have wrapped the birthday gifts that a co-worker gives to his wife.  This year, the present was in a long, fairly flat box.  I cut some kraft paper to the right size for the box (about 18"x16") and then got out my Gelli Plate :).

I had a stack of cardstock with me as well and made additional prints as I went along.  Here is the sheet of paper when I finished.

And the wrapped gift...

Wrapped and decorated gift...ribbons, flowers, butterflies and bling...

And the extra prints....This first one is my favourite of the night...it has a little bit of everything on it.

Raiding the Toy Box for Gelli Printing!

OK..so I didn't really raid the toy box, but only because there isn't one in the house anymore.  What I did do though, is go to the dollar store and pick up a few things.  It started out innocently enough, I just went in to pick up some wet wipes for my craft bag for a crop last week, but before I knew it I had a puzzle...a badminton raquet and birdie...and a package of textured foam shapes in my hand.  Luckily, I also remembered the wet wipes (it is so easy to get distracted when thinking of what I was going to do with these toys and my Gelli plate!).

So here are the toys....

And here are the prints using them.  Most are just single layers (first pull and ghost prints) as I wanted to show them before adding more layers.

The first pull using the birdie.

And the ghost print...

This one was done using the racquet...wasn't quite what I was going for and it was hard because of the size of my plate (8x10) compared to the racquet.  I didn't want to risk pressing too hard for fear of cutting into the plate.

Using the puzzle pieces....I layed a piece of netting over the top of this to add more texture.

And using the textured foam shapes...

I received a package the other day that had a few of these packing pieces in them.  I peeled off the one side to reveal the small honeycomb design.

And here are a few more using some stencils...once I got going I didn't want to stop...but I know you know how that is! :)

National Scrapbooking Day

On Saturday, my scrapping friend Sandy and I joined about 90 other women at a mega-crop hosted by Younique Bed and Breakfast Retreat.  Lots of fun, food, prizes and scrapping.

I did a demo on Gelli Plate techniques while I was there and then used one of the prints to make these cards.  I used a technique shown during Carolyn Dube's Gelli Printing online class.  Take a stencil and spray with several colours of Dylusions Spray Ink (or other water-based spray ink).  Let it dry.  Cover your gelli plate with white acrylic paint and then lay the stencil on top, dried ink side down.  The paint reactivates the ink.  Take a print with the stencil on the Gelli Plate.  Then lift the stencil and take another print.  This is the print that I used to make the cards.  I sprayed the oval die cut with Dylusions spray ink.  The hearts I cut from gelli prints.  Added just a little bling and twine around the hearts.  These cards are for a card swap, and my category is "all occasion" or "blank" so I left the tag blank for the recipients to stamp the greeting themselves.

I then managed to do two layouts, both without photos though (still deciding what ones I want to use).  I loved the colours of these papers that were part of the "goodie bag" received at the crop - thanks Heather!

Gelli Print Scraps on a Journal Page

Last night was another art journal group night at The Art House Studio.  I had a bunch of Gelli print scraps so thought I'd use them to collage a journal page.  I picked mostly greens, blues and yellows.  I added a few stamps in black and a few strips of black distressed washi tape and outlined the flowers in whitel paint marker...simple page but I love the colours and patterns on it.
